About Us
The Finger Lakes Running Company (FLRC) was created by Ian Golden in 2005 in an attempt to turn his passion into his profession.
Laced with countless miles of single track trail through numerous state parks and private lands, a beautiful dynamic landscape
shaped by gorges at the head of Cayuga Lake, and a wonderfully vibrant small college town with excellent academic and athletic
programs, Ithaca was chosen and the store born in May of 2006. Since its inception the FLRC has sought to provide customers
fitting by a staff trained in biomechanical analysis and whom use the products they sell, and to provide the community with a
social and informational hub as well as events support and sponsorship.
Believing that a business has an ethical obligation to their employees, customers, and community, the Finger Lakes Running Company
continually works to stay in touch with, relevant to, and supportive of each. Since opening the FLRC has had the opportunity
to support countless individual and non-profit charities as well as athletic events including a role of presenting sponsor of the
Cayuga Lake Triathlon. They have co-created and directed the Ithaca Festival Mile along with the Ithaca Youth Bureau and Finger
Lakes Running Club, developed and staged the Iroquois Trails Ultras (becoming Virgil Crest Ultras in 2010), and envisioned and
planned for the inaugural Catharine Valley Half Marathon slated for August of 2009. With the support of the running community they
have successfully collected, donated, or recycled over 1,000 pair of used running shoes.
In June 2009 the store was moved onto the Ithaca Commons in an effort not only to gain additional exposure but also to support a
wonderful and unique piece of independent Ithaca that is the Commons. With this move a local triathlete Nick Lehecka was brought on to
recreate the triathlon specialty side of the store and a relationship was established with Glen Swan of Swan's Cycles to round
out the Finger Lakes Running and (now) Triathlon Company's triathlon offerings.
On behalf of all of us at the Finger Lakes Running and Triathlon Company we feel grateful for being able to be employed doing something
we truly enjoy. We appreciate all in not only Ithaca but the active community at large who supports us. Know that we'll do all that we
can to insure that the support that you provide us will be returned through our support of the independent, vibrant and beautiful
community that is Ithaca. Let us know if there's anything we can do for you and we'll hopefully see you on the trails, roads, and lakes!
